Katia Lewkowicz’s “Ballsy Girl” Heading to Amazon Prime in France

"Ballsy Girl"

Amazon Prime Video has acquired its first French film. Per Cineuropa, the streaming platform has picked up Katia Lewkowicz’s “Ballsy Girl,” a comedy that was originally supposed to hit French cinemas on March 18. Now the film will begin streaming on Prime Video in France on April 15, before launching “in over 200 countries and territories later in the year.”

Lewkowicz’s third feature, “Ballsy Girl” centers on the frumpy Nour (Melha Bedia), who, in order to become more attractive to herself and men, decides to take up pole dancing. With the help of her instructor and two best friends, Nour embarks on a journey to self-acceptance.

Lewkowicz and Bedia wrote the script alongside Frédéric Hazan and Anthony Marciano. “Ballsy Girl” previously screened at the L’Alpe d’Huez Film Festival in January.

“French Dolls” and “Bachelor Days Are Over” are Lewkowicz’s other feature directorial efforts. She also wrote and helmed the “Écrire pour un chanteur” installment “C’est pour quand?” She received a WIFTS Foundation International Visionary Award for writing “French Dolls.”

Sally Potter’s “The Roads Not Taken,” Philippa Lowthorpe’s “Misbehaviour,” and Eliza Hittman’s “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” are just a few of the other films that — amid the COVID-19 outbreak — have had to pivot from theatrical releases to early streaming/VOD launches.
