Trailer Watch: Felicity Huffman Gets Bad News in “Tammy’s Always Dying”

"Tammy's Always Dying"

Felicity Huffman plays a self-destructive woman forced to confront her own mortality in a new trailer for “Tammy’s Always Dying.” Amy Jo Johnson’s dark comedy sees Tammy (Huffman) diagnosed with terminal cancer and told that, best case scenario, she has six to 10 months left to live.

Tammy’s health crisis further complicates her already-dysfunctional relationship with Catherine (Anastasia Phillips), her 35-year-old daughter. Long accustomed to cleaning up her alcoholic mother’s messes — and resentful about it — Catherine must move back into Tammy’s house to help care for her. “Taking care of me is the only thing you’ve ever been good at,” Tammy insists.

Playing nurse to Tammy seems to take a major toll on Catherine, who is seriously considering taking off. “You can either be the hero or the victim of this narrative,” she’s told.

Best known for her on-screen roles in “Flashpoint,” “Felicity,” and “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” Johnson’s directing credits include feature “The Space Between” and shorts “Breaking Emma” and “Shooting Blanks.”

Huffman received an Oscar nod for “Transamerica” and won an Emmy for “Desperate Housewives.” “When They See Us” and “American Crime” are among her more recent credits.

Phillips’ credits include “Reign” and “Bomb Girls.”

“Tammy’s Always Dying” made its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and hits digital platforms May 1. Joanne Sarazen wrote the script.
