When independent movie theaters begin reopening in the coming months, IFC Films will be there to give them a boost. A press release has announced the distributor will support partnering cinemas with The Indie Theater Revival Project.
“The company has put together 20 curated retrospective programs, which include approximately 200 films spanning IFC Films’ 20-year history, and will make them available to cinemas across the US, starting May 29,” per the source. “No film rental will be due for these special engagements. A selection of the programs will also be presented at IFC Center, IFC Films’ cinema in New York City, when it reopens.”
The Indie Theater Revival Project will allow partnering theaters to book any number of retrospective offerings, in part or in total, for a month after they reopen. Interested theaters can sign up or find more information via IFC Films’ website.
IFC Films has already confirmed three retrospective lineups: Greatest Hits, a selection of IFC blockbusters; Yes We Cannes!, 15 Cannes award winners; and Cult Icons, a collection of niche fan favorites.
Miranda July’s dramedy “Me and You and Everyone We Know,” Jennifer Kent’s acclaimed horror pic “The Babadook,” and Andrea Arnold’s coming-of-age drama “Fish Tank” are among the retrospectives’ offerings. Greta Gerwig-starrer “Frances Ha,” abortion drama “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” and queer romance “Blue Is the Warmest Color” are also included.
“Independent theaters across the country have been essential partners for us at IFC Films, and we would not be where we are today without their support,” the company stated. “We wanted to take the first step and let theaters know that we are committed to helping them reopen their doors by providing a selection of films to program while the new release landscape gets back to normal.”
