Rashida Jones Writes Film So She Can Have Decent Role

Women directors have long been writing their own material in order to give them opportunities to direct. Now women actors are taking up the pen in order to get themselves decent roles onscreen.

Here’s what she said (to the LA Times) about her film Celeste and Jesse (which has been trying to gather financing for some time.)

It’s hard to find female leads that are flawed and interesting and dynamic. We wanted to write something that was in the vein of Judd Apatow — you talk like you actually talk with your friends — but with ladies..I want to do that and not just be someone’s girlfriend or wife. I want to be the one to go on the journey.

I’m guessing that the male part will be a lot more interesting than the female parts in Judd Apatow’s films. Jones will co-star with Andy Samberg from SNL in the film which was co-written with Will McCormack and will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger.

Shooting with begin later this spring.
