Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, and Dawn are back for more adventures. A trailer has dropped for Netflix’s reboot of the “The Baby-Sitters Club” and sees the fivesome paying tribute to the franchise’s past while blazing their own trail. Claudia (Momona Tamada) describes the vintage clear, corded telephone she bought for the club as “iconic” and insists that the Etsy shop she bought it from assured her that it’s fully operational.
Based on Ann M. Martin’s best-selling book series, “The Baby-Sitters Club” follows Claudia, Kristy (Sophie Grace), Mary Anne (Malia Baker), Stacey (Shay Rudolph) and Dawn (Xochitl Gomez), middle-schoolers who hatch a plan to start their babysitting business.
“I started The Baby-Sitters Club to take care of kids, but what I realized [was] we were more than a club — we were best friends,” says Kristy.
The spot shows the seventh graders navigating everything from an unwanted stepsister to struggling with shyness.
“You are learning about yourselves and the way you want to be in the world,” the girls are told.
“The Baby-Sitters Club” was previously adapted into a 1990 series that aired on HBO and Nickelodeon, and a 1995 feature directed by Melanie Mayron.
The new show premieres July 3 on Netflix. “GLOW” writer Rachel Shukert serves as showrunner and “Broad City” co-creator Lucia Aniello is directing.
