“Never Have I Ever” is coming back for a second season on Netflix. The only thing surprising about the comedy’s renewal is that it took so long to be announced: Mindy Kaling’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story premiered to rave reviews and was the most popular series on the streaming platform around the globe when it debuted towards the end of April.

Created by Kaling and Lang Fisher and based on the former’s own childhood in suburban Massachusetts, the Netflix comedy tells the story of Devi Vishwakumar (newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a first-generation Indian-American teenager living in Sherman Oaks, California.

The first season of the show saw Devi, an unpopular overachiever, determined to “re-brand” and have sex for the first time, a journey that resulted in her alienating her overprotective mother (Poorna Jagannathan) and long-term besties (Ramona Young and Lee Rodriguez).

Season 1 concluded with a cliffhanger: Devi kissing her frenemy and academic rival Ben (Jaren Lewison) while her crush, school heartthrob Paxton (Darren Barnet), phoned her hoping to connect.
