Susan Sarandon pleads for her family to “behave as normally as possible” in a new trailer for “Blackbird.” Lily (Sarandon) has gathered her loved ones to say goodbye: she’s planning to end her battle with ALS on own terms, a decision that causes her grandson (Anson Boon) to question the legality of “killing grandma” and her daughter Anna (Mia Wasikowska) to consider calling emergency services to report a suicide attempt. The arrangement also brings unresolved issues between Anna and her sister (Kate Winslet) to the surface.
Asked if she’s afraid of what’s to come, Lily explains, “Once we set a date, I stopped worrying about dying and I could focus more on living.”
A five-time Oscar nominee, Sarandon took home the prize for “Dead Man Walking.” She also received nods for “The Client,” “Lorenzo’s Oil,” “Thelma & Louise,” and “Atlantic City.”
“Blackbird” made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The drama hits theaters and On Demand September 18.
