Rachel Brosnahan goes on the lam in Julia Hart’s latest. A trailer just dropped for “I’m Your Woman,” a drama led by the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star that’s set to open AFI Fest later this week.
Set in the ’70s, the crime drama sees Jean (Brosnahan), a new mother, stuck dealing with a mess her husband left her. “Something happened tonight,” Jean is told in the spot. Her husband, a thief, betrayed his partners, and now Jean has to skip town with their baby. A handler named Cal (Arinzé Kene) is helping facilitate that journey.
As Cal explains, everybody is looking for her Jean’s husband — and they’re looking for her, too. “You’re not to talk to anyone,” he insists. Clearly overwhelmed, Jean reveals, “I’ve never been on my own.”
Eventually Jean and Cal arrive at his country home where he, his wife (Marsha Stephanie Blake), and father (Frankie Faison) help Jean regroup and plan for what’s to come. That process includes teaching her how to use a gun. “Anyone can learn to shoot, but what you really need to figure out is what you’ll do when it’s real,” she’s told.
Hart most recently wrote and directed Disney+ musical YA romance “Stargirl.” Her other features include “Fast Color” and “Miss Stevens.”
Brosnahan has won an Emmy and two Golden Globe awards for her starring role on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which is set to return for a fourth season on Prime Video. “House of Cards,” “The Finest Hours,” and “The Blacklist” are among her other credits.
“I’m Your Woman” opens in select theaters December 4 and launches on Amazon Prime Video December 11. Hart penned the script with Jordan Horowitz.
