Cathy Brady’s feature directorial debut has landed UK distribution. According to Screen Daily, Modern Films secured UK and Ireland rights to the award-winning Irish drama that’s screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival.
Written by Brady, “Wildfire” tells the story of two sisters torn apart by the mystery of their mother’s death. The pair reunite just as more details about the tragedy begin to emerge.
A theatrical release is being planned for spring 2021. Worldwide rights will be shopped to buyers at this week’s virtual American Film Market.
Brady won the IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Bursary Award at BFI London Film Festival. Awarded to a first or second time UK writer, director, or writer-director presenting work at the BFI London Film Festival, the Bursary is for £50,000, or about $64,800 USD.
“Don’t wait,” Brady urged when we asked her advice for women directors. “You’ll never feel 100 percent ready. You just have to find a way to get creative and get your stories out there. It doesn’t matter how small you start — just start.”
