The fate of the world is in Melissa McCarthy’s hands in “Superintelligence.” A new trailer for the comedy sees Carol Peters (McCarthy), the “most average person on Earth,” tasked with an extraordinary mission. An all-powerful AI that “controls every machine on the planet” chooses her as a test subject. It believes that studying her will solidify its theory of humanity. “If things don’t go well I’ll destroy the planet,” the AI warns.
Carol has three days to prove the AI’s theory wrong. “I’m going to show you that people are worth saving,” she insists.
McCarthy received Oscar nods for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” and “Bridesmaids.” She was last seen in Andrea Berloff’s crime drama “The Kitchen.” Her upcoming projects include Hulu’s adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” and a computer-generated and live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.” She’ll play Ursula in the latter.
“Superintelligence” hits HBO Max November 26.
