I’ve gotten a couple of inquiries about Women and Hollywood’s involvement in the Fox Writer’s Intensive which is a reboot of their diversity program through a new entity which is called Fox Audience Strategy. The goal is to widen the voices that are put into the pool for employment at Fox.
Here’s what they are trying to do:
The Intensive is designed to introduce experienced writers with unique voices, backgrounds, life and professional experiences that reflect the diverse perspectives of the audiences we create for to a wide range of Fox staff writers, showrunners, directors, screenwriters and creative executives. These collective individuals will work with the selected writers to build on both their general craft and the business of writing for television, feature films and digital content with an added goal of creating a viable resource of experienced staffing opportunities.
This is not a program for new writers, this is to help gets experienced writers to the next level.
Women and Hollywood received an email from the team at Fox that handles the initiative asking if we wanted to be involved. Because all the writers have to have experience, we reached out to contacts and colleagues who are experts in this area for their recommendations.
We received the email very close to the deadline and only had limited time for the outreach.
There is no way for Women and Hollywood to read scripts and do self selection, the names submitted have to come from experts.
The names have already been submitted. It is now in the hands of the writers who will need to submit packets to Fox in order to be a part of the blind selection process. We are very pleased that this is a blind review process because statistics have shown that women are much more successful when their gender is not known.
If Women and Hollywood is asked to participate again in 2013 hopefully we will have more time and will be able to get additional recommendations of people to submit.
