Yesterday was a big day for Jennifer Lawrence. Not only is she in talks to increase her salary for the next Hunger Games film Catching Fire, she is also in negotiations/attached to star in a new film for The Weinstein Company, The Ends of the Earth.
Lawrence, whose kick ass performance as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games was arguably one of the main factors in the film’s worldwide gross of $683.8 million. The film has propelled her to near the top of the heap of women actors. The Hollywood Reporter states, Lawrence is currently renegotiating her deal for Catching Fire, upping her Hunger Games salary of $500,000 (plus bonuses) to $10 million for the sequel, a figure that could grow depending on how much the sequel makes.
Her co-stars, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, are also renegotiating their contracts but for much less of a raise as Lawrence is seen as the star of the films.
It was also announced, that Lawrence is attached to/ in final negotiations to star in The Ends of the Earth. The Playlist reports that the film, based on true events, focuses on Lydie Marland (Lawrence) who is cared for and eventually adopted by her father’s brother, oil tycoon Ernest Marland, after her own father is unable to care for her. After her biological father passes, 54 year old Ernest Marland dissolved the adoption and married 28 year old Lydie, a socialite who pushed her husband to advocate for fair worker wages and healthcare. After he lost his fortune, he began a political career while the two stayed married. When he passed away in 1941, Lydie became a recluse.
