“Life Sentence” didn’t receive a second season but that hasn’t slowed down its creators, Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith. Fox has given the duo a put pilot order for their next show, an adoption drama currently titled “The Family Practice.” According to Variety, Cardillo and Keith will write and exec produce the hour-long project.
“The Family Practice” is “an emotional procedural set in the world of adoption.” Its stories are told “from the point of view of an eclectic group of attorneys and social workers who grapple with their own familial dysfunction, while striving to create perfect families for their clients.”
“Life Sentence” premiered on The CW earlier this year. In its pilot, protagonist Stella (Lucy Hale, “Pretty Little Liars”) found out her terminal cancer had been cured. The series followed Stella as she became re-acclimated with the non-illness parts of life and was forced to deal with the fallout of the decisions she made when she thought she was dying — such as getting married to a near stranger.
The CW canceled the show partway through its 13-episode run. Cardillo and Keith both served as EPs.
Cardillo has produced and written for series “Fuller House” and “Significant Mother,” and co-wrote the upcoming meta rom-com “Isn’t It Romantic.” The Rebel Wilson-starrer hits theaters Valentine’s Day 2019. She and Keith directed the 2015 short “The Blind Date.”
Also an actress, Cardillo’s on-screen credits include “Criminal Minds,” “Hawaii Five-0,” and “The Suite Life on Deck.”
