“Marvel’s Agent Carter” showrunners and executive producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have sold a new series, “The Death of Sofia Valdez,” to ABC. This is the first project to come out of the super-duo’s previously announced development deal with the network.
The pilot for the series was written by writer-playwright-actress Charise Castro Smith (“Devious Maids”). Deadline describes “The Death of Sofia Valdez” as “a sexy revenge drama with a supernatural twist about a Cuban-American family on the rise as they navigate multiple business ventures in Miami, familial rivalries and dark secrets from the past that come back to haunt them.” Castro Smith, who will co-executive produce, is herself Cuban-American.
Fazekas and Butters are set to executive produce. The pair, who met as assistants on “The X-Files,” created The CW’s cult hit “Reaper” and received two WGA nominations for their work on “Law and Order: SVU.”
A series created by woman, backed by a female producing team and starring a woman of color is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Any ideas on prospective leading ladies?
