Agnès Godard and Pamela Albarrán to Receive Angénieux Cinematographer Awards at Cannes

Agnès Godard and Pamela Albarrán are set to be honored at Cannes for the impact of their work as directors of photography on world cinema by the festival’s official partner, Angénieux, according to press releases. Godard is set to receive the prestigious Pierre Angénieux Tribute, an annual award which has celebrated a major and successful director of photography since 2013. Meanwhile, the Angénieux Special Encouragement award, which recognizes the promising work of a young cinematographic talent, will go to Albarrán.

The July 16 ceremony will mark the first time that both awards have gone to women recipients.

France’s Godard is well known for her long-lasting collaboration with director Claire Denis, with whom she has worked on more than 15 films, including “35 Shots of Rum,” “Let the Sunshine In,” and “Beau travail,” for which she won the César award for Best Cinematography. She has also collaborated with director Ursula Meier on a number of films, including “Sister,” and she shot Carol Morley’s “The Falling.”

Pamela Albarrán’s credits include narrative feature “Help Me Make it Through the Night,” documentary feature “The Good Christian,” and a number of shorts. The Special Encouragement award was previously awarded to Modhura Palit in 2019, and Cécile Zhang in 2018.

The Angénieux awards are named after Pierre Angénieux, the French inventor of lenses.
