Agnieszka Holland is paying tribute to the mind behind “The Metamorphosis.” The celebrated Polish filmmaker’s latest offering, “Kafka,” inspired by the life of writer Franz Kafka, will be presented at the Berlinale Festival co-production market’s online edition, taking place from February 12-16. The Czech Film Center confirmed the news.
Described as a “dazzling kaleidoscopic mosaic of a film” that dramatizes Kafka’s life and imagination “in a series of standalone vignettes that span Kafka’s life from his birth in pre-war Prague, to his tragic death in 1924 in Berlin, to scenes from the future he prevised,” “Kafka” will mark Holland’s follow-up to 2020’s “Charlatan.” Holland is best known for “In Darkness,” “Europa Europa,” and “Bittere Ernte” (“Angry Harvest”), all of which were nominated for Academy Awards. “Mr. Jones” and “Spoor” are among her other features. Her TV credits include “House of Cards” and “The Killing.”
Besides “The Metamorphosis,” a novella about a man who wakes up to find himself transformed into a giant insect, Kafka’s other best known works include “The Trial” and “The Castle.”
