Alanna Thompson Swingers Comedy in Development at Showtime

Thompson: IMDb

Actress-writer Alanna Thompson has a new comedy in development at Showtime. Currently untitled, the half-hour project is created by Thompson and “focuses on relationships from three perspectives: a monogamous couple, an open couple, and two singles who meet and fall in love at a swingers party,” according to Deadline. “It wrestles with the question, is there a meaningful, sustainable alternative to monogamy?”

Showtime is producing. Dynamic Television’s Holly Hines and Daniel March will exec produce.

Thompson was last seen in a guest spot on “Modern Family.” Her other acting credits include “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and “Rescue Me.” Behind the scenes, she and Dynamic previously teamed up and sold spy-action drama “Cipher” to NBC last year. She also helped develop half-hour comedy “The Day I Turned Uncool” for NBC.

“You get so many notes from your agent, your manager, people around you,” Thompson has said of writing. “If you don’t trust that little tuning fork inside you, you’re in trouble. Trusting your gut is hugely important,” she emphasized.

“We are thrilled to be in business with Showtime. To be part of their amazing track record in comedy is an honor,” said Hines, Senior Vice President of Original Content for Dynamic. “We look forward to continuing our great partnership with Alanna on this extraordinary series.”
