Alice Lowe is taking on another genre project. A press release has announced that the British writer-director-actress is following up “Prevenge,” a dark comedy about a mom-to-be on a killing spree, with “Timestalker.” Described as a “metaphysical rom-com,” the feature follows Agnes, a woman who is “reincarnated every time she makes the same mistake: falling in love with the wrong man. The film is a thrilling tale of misplaced affection, unrequited lust, and revenge. One story, many periods — each one filled with the messy thrills and spills that come with daring to follow your heart. Or maybe your loins…”
Scheduled to shoot in 2019, “Timestalker” is being developed by Western Edge Pictures for the Gennaker Group.
In a statement, Lowe emphasized that she’s “so excited to wrangle this crazy adventure that’s been lurking in the back of my mind for over a year. I want to bring to audiences the concept-driven comedy that I enjoy but haven’t seen on-screen for a while. It’s going to be colorful, splashy, and wild. I can’t wait.”
When we asked the “Sightseers” star and co-writer her advice for other female filmmakers, she said, “Try to see your weaknesses as strengths. You don’t have to follow any preconceived ideas of what it is to be a filmmaker. You can do it your own way, and carve your own paths. There are ways you see the world that a male director doesn’t and can’t, and that can be a really exciting advantage,” she observed. “Our stories are still original and new because our perspectives are still rare in cinema. So just do it your own way.”
