Allison Janney is set to star in a dramatic thriller for Bad Robot. The Oscar and Emmy winner is teaming up with “Outlander” and “Jessica Jones” director Anna Foerster for “Lou.” The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
Described as tonal mix of “Thelma & Louise” and “Taken,” the pic centers on a young woman and her “hard-shelled” landlord, Lou (Janney). The pair join forces to track down the former’s daughter, who has been kidnapped by the woman’s estranged husband. Lou has a number of skill sets that will help them along the way — including tracking abilities.
Maggie Cohn (“American Crime Story”) penned the script for “Lou” with revisions by Jack Stanley.
Production is expected to kick off in spring 2019. Bad Robot is raising funds to make the pic independently.
Janney stars alongside Anna Faris in “Mom,” currently in its sixth season on CBS. She won an Oscar earlier this year for portraying Tonya Harding’s mother in “I, Tonya.” In recent weeks it was announced that the “West Wing” alumna will re-team with her “Help” director Tate Taylor for “Breaking News in Yuba County,” a black comedy about sisters co-starring Laura Dern.
Foerster made her feature debut with 2016 Kate Beckinsale-starrer “Underworld: Blood Wars.”
