Alma Har’el’s “Honey Boy” Gets a Release Date

"Honey Boy"

“Honey Boy” just got an awards-friendly release date. Amazon Studios will release the Alma Har’el-directed drama November 8. Deadline confirmed the news.

Written by Disney Channel alum Shia LaBeouf and loosely inspired by his life, the pic takes place over the span of a decade and sees a former child star (Lucas Hedges) trying to mend his relationship with his alcoholic father (LaBeouf).

LeBeouf shot to fame as a young teen starring in “Even Stevens.” “Transformers,” “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” and “American Honey” are among his feature credits.

“Honey Boy” made its world premiere at this year’s Sundance, where Har’el took home a Special Jury Prize for Vision and Craft. The feature marks Har’el’s narrative debut. Her documentary credits include “LoveTrue” and “Bombay Beach.”

When we asked Har’el what advice she’d give female filmmakers, she said, “You know everything you need to know to make a film. Stop taking seminars and workshops offered to you by men and institutions that try to help women. Grab a camera —  or even your iPhone — and make a film.”
