Alyssa Milano Has Gigs in the Works with Netflix, The CW, and Lifetime

Milano in “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later”: Netflix

Alyssa Milano is lighting it up. Deadline reports that the “Charmed” alumna has three new gigs in the works, all at different networks. She just closed deals that will see her developing, executive producing, and starring in “Alyssa Milano for Mayor,” a comedy series in development at Lifetime, she’s been promoted to series regular on Netflix’s upcoming dramedy “Insatiable” after impressing as a guest-star in the pilot, and she’s working on a new adaptation of her graphic novel “Hacktivist” with The CW.

Described as being in the vein of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Alyssa Milano for Mayor” features the former “Who’s the Boss?” star playing a version herself who ends up in public office. She becomes the mayor of a suburban LA town and “is forced to deal with the minutiae of community politics,” the source writes. A+E Studios is producing the Lifetime project in association with Milano’s Peace by Peace Productions.

“Insatiable” is based on a true story and centers on a disgraced lawyer (Dallas Roberts, “American Crime,” “The Good Wife”) who becomes a beauty pageant coach and accepts an unconventional client — a teen (Debby Ryan, “Jessie,” “Sing It!”) described as “vengeful” and “bullied.” Milano plays the coach’s wife.

The CW developed an adaptation of “Hacktivist” last season, but the cyber thriller wasn’t greenlit. Now the network is trying another approach with a new writer, Grant Thompson (“McFarland, USA”). The story follows “twentysomething best friends and co-founders of the most important social networking company in the world, who are recruited to work secretly for the CIA to bring about global social change,” Deadline summarizes. The project hails from Boom! Studios and CBS TV Studios, and Milano is among its executive producers.

“Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” and “Mistresses” are among Milano’s recent acting credits.
