Amy Jo Johnson Writing and Directing “Ends of the Earth”

Johnson on "Breakfast Television"

Amy Jo Johnson’s third directorial effort is on the way. The “Flashpoint” actor will follow up 2017’s “The Space Between” and 2019’s “Tammy’s Always Dying” with “Ends of the the Earth,” a “dramatic love story set against the backdrop of the September 11, 2001 attacks.” The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.

Written by Johnson, “Ends of the Earth” is set in Gander, Newfoundland, and “portrays a romance told over three key moments in a woman’s life where she experiences an intense, yet ill-timed connection with a grief-stricken, guilt-ridden man who she meets against the backdrop of 9/11,” the source details.

“It’s ultimately a hopeful movie about the sacrifice for family and a bond between two people who fundamentally change each other forever,” Johnson told THR.

“Ends of the Earth” is expected to go into production in summer 2022.

“Covert Affairs,” “Felicity,” and “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” are among Johnson’s on-screen credits.

Another woman-directed film tackling 9/11, Sara Colangelo’s “Worth,” was recently acquired by Netflix and Michelle and Barack Obama’s production company, Higher Ground. The Sundance drama is based on a true story and centers on the lawyer who was appointed Special Master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.
