Amy Poehler may be returning to the network who introduced the world to Leslie Knope. The “Parks and Recreation” alumna is exec producing an untitled family comedy that has received a put-pilot commitment from NBC, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Written by “New Girl” producer Kim Rosenstock, the project centers on a newly single mom “who is forced to rely on the last people she wants help from: her family,” THR writes.
Poehler starred on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” from 2009 to 2015. The actress, writer, director, and producer and her company, Paper Kite Productions, signed a multi-year deal with Universal TV in 2016. The pact sees her working on scripted and unscripted content at NBC/Universal and Universal TV Alternative Studio. The former “SNL” star recently snagged a straight-to-series order from Netflix for a comedy starring “Orange Is the New Black’s” Natasha Lyonne.
Earlier this year Paper Kite acquired the film rights to “Moxie,” a YA book by Jennifer Mathieu. The story centers on a Texas teen who starts producing a zine after being inspired by her mom’s Riot Grrrl youth.
“Let me take a minute to say I love bossy women,” Poehler has said. “Some people hate the word, and I understand how ‘bossy’ can seem like a shitty way to describe a woman with a determined point of view, but for me, a bossy woman is someone to search out and to celebrate.”
