Amy Poehler is working on yet another TV project. Deadline confirms her Paper Kite Productions has optioned the rights to Rebecca Makkai’s “The Great Believers,” a novel about the AIDS crisis, with plans to adapt it for television.

Published this past June, “The Great Believers” takes place in 1980s Chicago and 2015 Paris. The book focuses on “the AIDS epidemic and a mother’s search for her estranged daughter to explore the effects of senseless loss and our efforts to overcome it,” Deadline writes. Meanwhile “the arc revolving around a group of mostly gay male friends conveys the terrors and tragedies of the epidemic’s early years and follows its repercussions over decades.”

“The Great Believers” was shortlisted for 2018’s National Book Award for Fiction and is a finalist for the Carnegie Medal for Excellence for Fiction.

Poehler co-created “Russian Doll,” an upcoming Netflix series about a never-ending party, with Natasha Lyonne and Leslye Headland. She produced the Adult Swim pilot “Three Busy Debras,” an absurdist project about three disturbed housewives and is exec producing the animated comedy “Duncanville,” centering on a lazy kid with big dreams.

The Emmy winner directed three episodes of her NBC sitcom “Parks and Rec” and an ep of “Broad City,” which she also EPs. Her feature directorial debut, Netflix pic “Wine Country,” is expected sometime next year. It sees a group of old friends heading to Napa for a 50th birthday celebration.

Makkai has also penned novels “The Borrower” and “The Hundred Year House” as well as short story collection “Music For Wartime.”
