It’s literally a new day at the Academy.

The Board of Governors last night voted Cheryl Boone Isaacs an African American woman as its leader.  She is the first African American to hold this post and only the third woman (but really the second since Bette Davis held the post only for 2 weeks.) 

Her election means that for the first time there is a woman president and a woman chief executive — Dawn Hudson.  Hopefully, with two women in charge we will have a host of the Academy Awards that won’t spend the whole time offending women.

Ms. Boone Isaacs is a marketing expert who runs her own company CBI which has consulted on films like The Artist.  She previously served as First VP and was the producer of the Governors Awards.

No other women were elected to the executive board.
