Vertical Entertainment has acquired U.S. and U.K. rights to Andrea Dorfman’s latest, Variety reports. The comedy made its U.S. premiere at the Miami Film Festival yesterday.
“Spinster” stars “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” Chelsea Peretti as Gaby, a woman who is unexpectedly dumped on her 40th birthday. Terrified “she’ll be alone forever,” Gaby “embarks on a dating rampage only to discover that her problem isn’t that she doesn’t have a love life – it’s that she doesn’t have a life.”
Jennifer Deyell penned the script. She and Dorfman collaborated on the screenplay for “Love That Boy,” a 2003 feature directed by the latter. “Heartbeat” and “Sluts: The Documentary” are among Dorfman’s other credits.
Best known for her role as Gina on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Peretti’s other credits include “Big Mouth,” “Game Night,” and
“Kroll Show.” You can catch her in theaters in Stella Meghie’s Issa Rae-starrer “The Photograph,” a romance that charts intertwining love stories. Next up for Peretti is “Friendsgiving,” Nicol Paone’s comedy about a group of family and friends that come together celebrate Thanksgiving with a chaotic and dysfunctional dinner party.
No word on a release date for “Spinster” just yet.
