Angela Chen’s next project just received a major boost. The writer, director, editor, and producer has been named as the inaugural recipient of the AGBO/AFI Conservatory Development Grant, a program that awards $25,000 to a recent AFI Conservatory graduate to develop at least one project, with year-long mentorship from AGBO. A press release confirmed the news.

The fund will go towards Chen’s “Triad of Us,” a multi-perspective portrait of a Chinese immigrant family and their first-generation children in America. Based on a true story, the pic finds the family’s young daughter “unveiling dark family secrets as an assassination is executed and a sting operation is underway.”

We are thrilled to be working with AFI — the premier training ground for storytelling in Los Angeles — to identify and support the next generation of dynamic filmmakers rising from their ranks. Chen has over two dozen shorts to her name, including “Our Home Here,” “The Currency of Dreams,” and “The American Way.”
