Angela Robinson has inked an overall deal with Paramount TV, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. The two-year pact sees the multi-hyphenate developing new projects for the studio. Robinson’s most recent project, “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women,” hit theaters in fall 2017. She wrote and directed the period pic detailing Wonder Woman’s origin story and the polyamorous relationship that served as inspiration for the iconic hero.
No stranger to the small screen, Robinson’s resume includes credits on “How to Get Away with Murder,” “True Blood,” “Hung,” and “The L Word.”
“I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Angela at the beginning of her career and am thrilled to be collaborating with her again at Paramount TV,” said studio president Nicole Clemens. “She is a supremely talented writer, producer, director whose unique point of view resonates throughout her diverse body of work and we look forward to supporting her vision.”
Robinson added, “Nicole Clemens was one of the first people in Hollywood to believe in me and support me and I could not be more excited to launch this next chapter with her and the amazing folks at Paramount Television.”
Currently a co-captain of Time’s Up Women of Color, Robinson’s slate includes an adaptation of the award-winning graphic novel series “Strangers in Paradise” and exec producing “Passing,” “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women” star Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut. She was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s directing branch last year.
Robinson received the Achievement Award at the 2018 Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival, the fest’s most prestigious prize. Given in recognition of “a body of work that has made a significant contribution to LGBT film and media,” the award’s previous recipients include “Boys Don’t Cry” co-writer and director Kimberly Peirce, “Desert Hearts” helmer Donna Deitch, and “Glee” alumna Jane Lynch.
