The Hollywood Reporter’s 23rd annual Power 100 list is out, and it’s more or less the list you’d expect: a few superstar actresses (Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Shailene Woodley); big-name studio executives; powerful producers; and a few brand-name writers/creators (Tina Fey, Jenji Kohan, Lena Dunham, Gillian Flynn).
The Reporter highlights “disruption in the industry” as the reason why nearly two dozen new women made the list.
While we’re appreciative that the Hollywood Reporter is shining a spotlight on the women who have “leaned” into the industry, isn’t it time to retire listing female professionals’ ages alongside — actually, before — their job titles? After all, it’s hard to imagine an all-male list of similarly accomplished men identifying their ages. Let’s celebrate these women for their achievements without keeping track of how many rings line their trunks.
