Sony is reportedly negotiating with Becky Johnston to take over writing duties for Salt 2.
Jolie has been in talks to reprise her role as a CIA agent turned Russian sleeper cell agent. In 2011, they hired the original film’s writer, Kurt Wimmer, to write a sequel.
The trades reported that Jolie was unhappy with the script Wimmer wrote and refused to agree to the sequel. It has taken over a year to find a scribe that both Jolie and producers, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash, all agreed upon.
Johnston has written The Prince of Tides, starring and directed by Barbra Streisand; Seven Years in Tibet, starring Brad Pitt; and the upcoming Arthur Newman with Emily Blunt.
It's worthy to note that the studio was willing to go down this path to stay in business with Jolie on the Salt sequel. Let's see if she gets the script she wants out of this power play.
