Angelina Jolie’s second directorial feature Unbroken now has a release date and a star.
Written by Joel and Ethan Coen, Jolie’s next feature is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s best selling book, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption which tells the story of track star Lou Zamperini. After a successful career as a track star including a trip to the 1936 Olympics, Zamperini enlists in the Air Force. In 1943, Zamperini’s plane went down in the water and he spent 47 days at sea. When he finally made it to shore in Japan, he was held as a prisoner of war for two years.
Jack O’Connell, a British actor, best known for his role on the teen soap Skins, has nabbed the role of Zamperini. Universal has slated Unbroken for a December 25, 2014 release date.
Looks like we’ll be potentially seeing Jolie in next year’s Oscar race.
