Anika Noni Rose Cast in CBS’ Ava DuVernay-Directed Civil-Rights Pilot ‘For Justice’

Tony winner Anika Noni Rose (“Caroline, or Change”) will headline “For Justice,” a CBS drama about a FBI agent’s investigations into hate crimes across the country.

Rose will play Special Agent Natalia “Nat” Chappel, described by Deadline as “a cool, laser-focused, tough-as-nails FBI agent who works in the Criminal Section of the Department of Civil Rights Division and finds herself caught between the radical family she was born into and the professional family she has chosen.” Phylicia Rashad was previously cast as one of Nat’s colleagues, an older lesbian agent.

The pilot will be directed by Ava DuVernay (who will also executive produce) and is based on James Patterson’s debut crime novel, “The Thomas Berryman Number.”
