Annette Bening Will Be Honored with AARP Movies For Grownups Career Achievement Award

Bening in "The Report"

Annette Bening’s latest offering, critically acclaimed political thriller “The Report,” will hit theaters later this month, and now she has even more to celebrate. The Oscar-nominated actress was just named the recipient of AARP’s 2019 Movies For Grownups Career Achievement Award. She’ll receive the honor at the 19th annual Movies for Grownups Awards ceremony, slated to take place January 11 in Beverly Hills. Deadline confirmed the news.

The Movies For Grownups initiative celebrates “movies for grownups, by grownups, by advocating for the 50-plus audience, fighting industry ageism and encouraging films that resonate with older viewers,” according to AARP.

Previous recipients of the Movies For Grownups Career Achievement Award include Helen Mirren, Shirley MacLaine, and Susan Sarandon.

“I’m really honored that the AARP has selected me. Especially since there are so many people that they could have recognized,” said Bening. “These awards acknowledge the kinds of movies we need and don’t get enough of. In that way, the awards are advocates for good moviemaking, for meaningful moviemaking. And to be a part of this is very gratifying.”

Myrna Blyth, Senior Vice President and Editorial Director for AARP Media, added, “Annette Bening has captured our hearts and entertained us for years with her performances. We are thrilled to award Annette with our highest honor and recognize a remarkable career.”

A four-time Oscar nominee, Bening scored nods for “The Kids Are All Right,” “Being Julia,” “American Beauty,” and “The Grifters.” “Captain Marvel,” “The Seagull,” and “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool” are among her recent credits. You can catch her next in “The Report,” set to bow November 15. Based on a true story, the pic explores the CIA’s use of torture after 9/11.

Bening’s other upcoming projects include “Turn of the Mind,” a portrait of a retired surgeon suffering from Alzheimers who finds herself a suspect in her friend’s murder, and “Death on the Nile,” a mystery based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name.
