Get ready to discover even more “Sisters.” An American remake of the Australian family drama about three half sisters is in the works, Deadline reports. Written by Annie Weisman, the project secured a put pilot commitment at Fox “in a very competitive situation.”
Both “Sisters” are one-hour dramas following only child Julia Bechly as she finds out her father, a trailblazing fertility doctor, used his own sperm to conceive dozens of children. “As she dutifully begins to track down her emerging group of siblings, among a sea of brothers, Julia discovers only two sisters — both of whom quickly become a part of her now redefined family.”
In some ways “Sisters'” story parallels the real-life tale of Dr. Donald Cline, an Indiana doctor who inseminated unwitting female patients with his own sperm about 50 times — and fathered dozens of children. Somehow this man is not in prison, but he surrendered his medical license and has been barred from ever getting another one.
Imogen Banks and Jonathan Gavin created the original “Sisters,” starring Maria Angelico, Antonia Prebble, and Lucy Durack. The show premiered in Australia in fall 2017 and launched in the U.S. as a Netflix Original in September 2018.
Weisman and Banks are among the American “Sisters'” exec producers.
Weisman writes and serves as a consulting producer on “I Feel Bad,” Aseem Batra’s new NBC comedy about a woman embracing her imperfections. Her other writer-producer credits include “The Path,” “About a Boy,” “Suburgatory,” and “Desperate Housewives.”
Banks has written for and produced Australian series “Puberty Blues,” “Offspring,” and “Tangle,” among others.
