Apple Orders Immigrant Anthology Series Co-Created by Emily V. Gordon

Gordon on "The View"

Emily V. Gordon has booked another gig. Apple just ordered a timely half-hour anthology series inspired by immigrant stories co-written by “The Big Sick” scribe, Deadline reports. She’ll also serve as an EP on the project.

Titled “Little America,” the series is based on true stories featured in Epic Magazine and “described on the site as ‘a small, collective portrait of America’s immigrants — and thereby a portrait of America itself,'” the source notes. “The TV series will go beyond the headlines to look at the funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring, and unexpected lives of immigrants in America, at a time when their stories are more relevant than ever.

Gordon will pen the script alongside “The Big Sick” star and co-writer Kumail Nanjiani — who is also Gordon’s husband — and Lee Eisenberg (“SMILF,” “The Office”).

Inspired by Gordon and Nanjiani’s real-life love story, “The Big Sick” tells the story of stand-up comedian and grad student whose new romance takes a wildly unexpected turn when the latter falls into a coma. The box office and critical success earned Gordon and Nanjiani an Oscar nod for Best Screenplay and went on to become the highest-grossing indie of 2017.

Gordon is also signed on to to pen a feature adaptation of Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s New York Times Best Seller “The Nest” for Amazon Studios. The NYC-set family dramedy tells the story of adult siblings fighting over the future of their trust fund. Her other credits include “Crashing” and “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail.”
