The New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) Fund for Women Filmmakers is now accepting submissions for its 2017 grants. According to a NYWIFT press release, female filmmakers are welcome to apply to four different categories: the Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness grant, In-Kind Post Production grants, the Nancy Malone Marketing and Promotion (MAP) grant, and the Ravenal Foundation Feature Film grant.
The Loreen Arbus Disability Awareness will award $7,500 “to a woman filmmaker for a film on physical or developmental disability issues.” The recipient will also receive “production support and voicing of the audio description for their film courtesy of Michele Spitz.” Spitz’s donation will ensure the winning film is accessible to visually impaired audiences. Directors or producers may submit films of any genre or length for the Loreen Arbus grant. Only unfinished films are eligible, but must have completed their principle photography.
The Fund for Women Filmmakers’ In-Kind Post Production grants are for films directed and produced by female filmmakers based in the New York City area. Films must be 90 minutes or less. Only films that have completed their principle photography and are at a rough cut or fine cut stage will be accepted. “Grants for an online session and/or a sound mix will be awarded to documentary films; grants for a color grading session will be awarded to a narrative film,” the press release details.
First or second-time filmmakers are eligible to apply for the Nancy Malone MAP grant. The recipient will be awarded $5,000 to help get “her film recognized and ready for distribution.” Completed or currently-being-completed dramatic features are eligible. Films co-directed by a woman and a man will not be accepted.
Finally, the Ravenal Foundation Feature Film grant will bestow $7,500 to a second-time feature film director who is over 40 and currently working on a dramatic feature film. The awarded funds can be used for pre-production, production, or post-production costs. Applicants must have previously helmed a dramatic feature or feature doc that was released in U.S. theaters or was accepted to a major film fest. Women who have directed one dramatic feature for theaters or TV are eligible to apply, as are women who have directed one or more documentaries.
Applications for the Loreen Arbus, In-Kind Post Production, and Nancy Malone grants are due June 15, 2017. The Ravenal Foundation Feature Film grant will accept applications until July 15, 2017. For more information visit the NYWIFT website.
