Raising Films, the organization advocating for parents and carers in the UK film industry, is now accepting applications for its Making it Possible Personal Development Programme 2017. Thirty-six parents and carers will be invited to take part in a one-day session in either London or Manchester, where they will receive “support from a life coach and industry experts, who can offer personalized and realistic guidance.”

Making it Possible is open to individuals with plans to maintain their career while raising their family. “You might be planning for or still be on maternity/paternity leave or about to return,” the Raising Films website writes. You might “be back at work after an extended caring break; or you may be fired up to advance your career but struggling to make it happen due to juggling work with domestic demands.”

London’s Making it Possible session will be held November 1 and the Manchester session will be November 2. Childcare will be provided at or near the training venues and breaks will be scheduled throughout the day.

In July Raising Films published “Raising our Game: Next Steps for the UK Film and Television Industry,” a study produced after six months of qualitative research. The final report included strategies on how to support parents and carers working in film as well as standards for diversity and inclusion. This winter Raising Films held an Industry Summit to discuss the state of working conditions for parents and carers in the entertainment industry. The organization also unveiled the Family Support Fund, the first financial support program dedicated to UK screen professionals’ caring costs.

Go to Raising Films’ website to find out more about the Making it Possible Programme and to apply. The application deadline is Sunday, October 8 at 11:59pm BST.
