Applications are now being accepted for Kartemquin Films and The Community Film Workshop of Chicago’s sixth Diverse Voices in Docs (DVID) program. DVID will provide eight filmmakers of color from the Midwest the chance to learn from Kartemquin and Community Film Workshop professionals, established film directors, and an experienced mentor in the industry.
DVID students will also pitch their film ideas to major funders from organizations like the Sundance Institute, Chicken and Egg Pictures, and the National Black Programming Consortium.
In order to qualify for DVID, you should be a filmmaker who has previously played a principal role— i.e. served as a director, producer, writer, editor, etc. — on a finished production. You should also have a professional passion for social issue documentaries.
“Diverse Voices in Docs is an essential program for the documentary community as well as the broader independent filmmaking industry,” commented Emily Strong, Kartemquin’s Programs & Engagement Manager. “Our mission in the program is to champion filmmakers of color and ensure a diverse number of perspectives are empowered and visible in the field and sharing stories they want to tell.”
Applications for the 2018 Diverse Voices in Docs program will be accepted until November 18, 2017. Head over to Kartemquin Films’ website to apply.
