Apply Now: Inaugural AXS Film Fund for Creators of Color With Disabilities

"AXS Film Fund"

Founded to support ethnic minorities with disabilities in getting recognition and job opportunities within the film industry, the AXS Film Fund is now accepting applications for support grants. Up to five creators of documentary or nonfiction new media projects will be awarded up to $10,000 to assist with projects that are in any stage of production.

“2020 very clearly brought about the need for compassion and serious change,” the fund’s website states. “Between violence targeted at people of color, a fearful divided nation, and the global pandemic, it is more important now than ever to raise and support a body of more culturally diverse voices.”

AXS Film Fund president and founder Jason Dasilva stated, “We are thrilled to launch this new fund with the mission of changing. It is time to defeat the negative stereotypes and portrayals of disability. It is time to raise and support people of color with disabilities on their journeys to becoming nonfiction filmmakers and creators.”

The fund will be led by led by DaSilva, a filmmaker and disability rights activist, and program director Naomi Middleton.

To be eligible to apply, a person of color with a disability must be a key contributor to the project. Projects must be feature length documentary films or nonfiction new media.

AXS Film Fund applications are due September 3, 11:59pm EDT. For more info and to apply, visit their website.
