Apply Now: NBC’s Female Forward and Emerging Director Programs

NBC’s first “Female Forward” class

Heartened by the increasing number of women and people of color behind the camera in episodic TV? If you want to get in on the action, consider submitting to the 2019-20 classes of NBC’s scripted directing programs, Female Forward and the Emerging Director Program. The network has opened submissions for both, a press release announced.

Launched with the aim of increasing diverse representation in TV directing, both programs are part of initiatives within the NBC Talent Infusion Programs (NBC TIPS). “Female Forward aims to achieve gender parity in the director’s chair while the Emerging Director Program focuses on ethnically diverse men and gender non-binary talent,” the announcement details.

Finalists for both programs will get priceless experience — shadowing up to three episodes of an NBC or NBCU Cable scripted series. They’re also guaranteed an in-season commitment to direct at least one episode of the series they shadow.

Act fast: submissions close Friday, November 9 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Eligible directors can apply here.

NBC announced its inaugural class for Female Forward back in July. The finalists included Ramaa Mosley, whose feature debut, Juno Temple-starrer “The Brass Depot,” made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and “Chicago Fire” actress Monica Raymund, who previously helmed “Tanya,” an award-winning short. They’re being placed on “Blindspot” and “Law & Order: SVU,” respectively.
