If you’re a woman filmmaker with a love for the Great Outdoors, then The North Face has the grant for you. The apparel company has announced the Move Mountains Filmmakers Grant, “a program created to address the inequitable representation of women behind the camera,” according to a press release.

Move Mountains will see four women directors receiving $25,000 each to develop and shoot a four to seven-minute short as well as a 30-second trailer by March 1, 2020. The finished projects will “capture exploration in its most authentic sense,” the grant’s web page details. Examples include “examining what makes art important or discovering the backcountry of the Rocky Mountains.”

The grantees will also receive mentorship from director Eloise King (“Gurls Talk”), documentarian and photojournalist Taylor Rees, and A24’s VP of Acquisitions and Development, Ali Herting.

Additionally, the Move Mountains recipients will be invited to attend and network at the 2020 Mountainfilm Festival. Selected grantees will attend and speak at the first WUTI GOES IDYLLWILD Film Festival, to be held this September. Certain projects made during the program will be shared and promoted across The North Face channels.

Move Mountains Filmmakers Grant applications should include a short bio, a director’s treatment, an itemized budget, a production/post-production schedule, a plan for the film’s mood/style imagery, and samples of past work. Applications will be accepted until July 23. Grantees will be notified August 15.
