Aspiring screenwriters, take note: The Black List and “Mudbound” producer Cassian Elwes are teaming up for the sixth year in a row for the The Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship, an annual program “designed to encourage and identify new talent in the field.” Two screenwriters will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. They’ll also have the opportunity to meet with Elwes, whose credits include “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.”
Writers must be unrepresented and have made less than $5,000 in aggregate in their film or television writing careers. You can opt into consideration via the Black List website until November 9. “At that time, the Black List will choose 10 screenplays imbued with an independent spirit by unrepresented screenwriters, which will be sent on to Mr. Elwes for his consideration,” a press release announcing the fellowship details. Elwes will select the fellowship recipients by the end of the year.
Previous fellows include Keely Lewis Wise, Heather Faris, and Kristina Zacharias. You can read about the latter two’s experiences at Sundance by clicking on their names.
