Oscar-winning “West Side Story” breakout Ariana DeBose is going from singing to shrieking. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Broadway star will lead “House of Spoils,” a Prime Video and Blumhouse psychological thriller. Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy’s sophomore feature follows a chef opening her first restaurant on a remote estate.
The pic, penned by Cole and Krudy, will see DeBose battling “kitchen chaos, a dubious investor, crushing self doubts, and the powerful spirit of the estate’s previous owner threatening to sabotage her at every turn.”
Cole and Krudy made their feature debut with 2019 dark comedy “Blow the Man Down.”
“Since ‘Blow the Man Down,’ we have been huge fans of Bridget and Danielle’s unique filmmaking voice and knew we needed to be a part of whatever they wanted to do next,” said Julie Rapaport, head of movies at Amazon Studios.
DeBose made history earlier this year as the first openly queer woman of color to win an Oscar. She was recognized for her portrayal of Maria in “West Side Story.” “Westworld” and “The Prom” are among previous credits. Her upcoming slate includes “I.S.S,” a sci-fi thriller about astronauts from I.S.S from “Megan Leavey” helmer Gabriela Cowperthwaite.
