The Athena Film Festival team is seeking scripts for the 2016 edition of the Athena List.
An integral part of the festival’s celebration of women and leadership, the Athena List is an annual slate
of 3–5 screenplays with female leaders or strong female protagonists
that have yet to be made into films. Last year, the list was profiled
in Entertainment Weekly, and one of
the films from the first class of winners, “On the Basis of Sex,” will
go into production early next year with Natalie Portman starring as Ruth Bader
Ginsburg. Time.com wrote of the list, “The Black List has a new gender-conscious cousin.”
The Athena Film Festival screens feature
films, documentaries and shorts dedicated to highlighting women’s leadership
in real life and in the fictional world. The 6th annual Athena Film Festival,
which will include conversations with producers, directors and Hollywood stars, as
well as workshops for filmmakers, will take place at Barnard College in New
York City on February 18–21, 2016.
What We Look For:
•
Screenplays must include a strong
woman character in a leadership role at the center of the story
•
Must be between 80–120 pages
(Entries must be for feature-length films only — no shorts will be accepted)
•
Must be written in English
The
screenplay needs to be complete and ready for production. Do not submit early
drafts.
The Athena Film Festival is
committed to ensuring that filmmakers and screenwriters across the globe get
their stories about women’s leadership to the world.
All submissions should complete this form.
