Ava DuVernay will receive the Adrienne Shelly Foundation’s Third Annual Woman of Vision Salute.
Named after actress and filmmaker Adrienne Shelly, the non-profit organization helps support women filmmakers through grants. ASF founder and executive director Andy Ostroy, who is also Shelly’s widower, said, “Ava embodies the multi-hyphenate, can-do spirit at the heart of independent filmmaking. Through the Foundation we seek to salute those women creators who break through the barriers while succeeding artistically.”
DuVernay commented to Women and Hollywood
The foundation is a wonderful non-profit in the name of a wonderful artist, and so to be selected for this award is a lovely honor. I thank them and look forward to sharing the film and some good conversation.
The award will be presented at the Museum of Modern Art on December 12 along with a screening of DuVernay’s film Middle of Nowhere. To purchase tickets, please visit Adrienneshellyfoundation.org, click Donate, and charge $150 per ticket.
Also that evening the IFP/Adrienne Shelly Award will be given to Leah Meyerhoff for her film I Believe in Unicorns.
