Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich has secured a put-pilot commitment from ABC for her new comedic murder-mystery series Couch Detective. Iungerich has teamed up with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on the project, which will follow “the exploits of a thirty-something female ‘couch detective’ who solves crimes based on her encyclopedic knowledge of every true-crime TV special, police procedural and made-for-TV movie,” according to Deadline.
In addition to writing the script, Iungerich will executive produce alongside Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman, with KristieAnne Reed joining them as co-executive producer.
Deadline reports that “ABC has been looking to get a female-centered amateur detective light mystery procedural on the air,” citing the network’s choice to develop Murder in Manhattan — a series focused on a mother-daughter team of sleuths — — that went to pilot.
Iungerich left her position as showrunner at Awkward last year after three seasons. The show, which airs on MTV, is currently in its fourth season.
We can’t wait to see who is cast as the eponymous couch detective — this seems like a really fun role for an actress.
