Barbara Kopple’s “Miss Sharon Jones!” Acquired By Starz Digital

“Miss Sharon Jones!”

Starz Digital has announced the acquisition of all North American distribution rights to Barbara Kopple’s “Miss Sharon Jones!”

Kopple (“Harlan County U.S.A.”, “Shut Up & Sing”) is a two-time Academy Award winner. “Miss Sharon Jones!” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 and played at SXSW earlier this year. It won the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the Sarasota Film Festival.

“Miss Sharon Jones!” features the titular Sharon Jones and her band, The Dap-Kings. According to the film’s official synopsis, “Just as her career is hitting its stride, iconic soul diva Sharon Jones faces her greatest challenge yet. This triumphant, music-fuelled crowd-pleaser captures Sharon Jones during the most intense and courageous year of her life, as she battles back from a life-threatening illness to get back to where she belongs — center stage.”

Starz Digital will open the movie theatrically on July 29, followed by a digital, on-demand, and home video release later this fall.
