Baseball Drama About Professional Baseball’s (Fictional) First Female Pitcher Finds Home Base at Fox

A new baseball drama centered on a young female pitcher has landed at Fox. The series, created by Dan Fogelman (“The Neighbors”) and Rick Singer (“American Dad!”), received a put pilot commitment from Fox, which means there will be serious financial repercussions if the pilot doesn’t air, pretty much guaranteeing that the pilot will be picked up.

We hope that the producers of the as-yet untitled series, which include Helen Bartlett (“North Country”), make it a priority to hire women writers and directors. According to Deadline, the female pitcher the series focuses on “defies the odds to become the first woman to compete in professional baseball.” The story of a woman challenging expectations in a male-dominated field — and almost certainly battling sexism along the way — sure would benefit from women’s perspectives.
