Batwoman is on the prowl. A series about the famed DC vigilante is in the works at The CW, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. The character will make her debut in December as part of The CW’s annual DC series crossover event, with plans for her story to continue on her own drama.
Developed by Caroline Dries (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Greg Berlanti (“Supergirl”), the series would follow social justice advocate Kate Kane. The out lesbian and “highly trained street fighter [is] primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence” as Batwoman. “But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Dries will pen the script and is among the project’s exec producers. Besides “The Vampire Diaries,” her credits include “Melrose Place” and “Smallville.”
Kate/Batwoman hasn’t been cast yet.
“The DC crossover will mark the first time the character of Batwoman will appear in live-action form on any screen when she is seen fighting alongside The CW’s heroes,” the source notes. Other DC series at The CW Include “Supergirl” and “Black Lightning.”
