Dortmund Cologne International Women’s Film Festival (IWFF) just said what we’ve all been thinking: “I cannot believe we are still protesting!” According to a press release from the festival, that is the theme of its fifth annual International Meeting of Women in Film and Media. Dortmund Cologne IWFF is associated with Berlin International Film Festival.
“We cannot believe we are still protesting but we are,” the press release states. “To give value to the fight we went through, to protect the achievements we conquer, and to keep aiming towards complete equality.”
Featuring a panel discussion on the current state of women in film, the meeting will include “valuable voices in this conversation,” like Malte Krückels (State Secretary for Media and Representative of the Free State of Thuringia for Federal Affairs), Petra Müller (CEO, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW), Silke J. Räbiger (Festival Director, Dortmund Cologne IWFF), and Mariel Maciá (Event Manager, Dortmund Cologne IWFF).
“We are experiencing a very powerful moment in the gender equity movement worldwide,” the festival’s statement reads. “Our work in the film and media industry is taking place during the last 40 years and in this fifth edition of our discussion we like to acknowledge the engagement of organizations and individuals who were active in this time frame, who are able to share results and to analyze the changes that were brought to the film and the media industry.”
The International Meeting of Women in Film and Media will take place on February 16 as part of Dortmund Cologne IWFF and Berlin International Film Festival. The meeting’s schedule is below. Visit the festival’s website for more information.
